Fungal Forest Roomscape

On August 4th, 2020 I posted a Roomscape thread based on my older, fungal forest map.
You're welcome to add a response as well.  :)

You should check out the other roomscape threads too.

Underdark Geomorffs

To make twitter's #FF a bit more interesting, I'm going to start dropping some Underdark mini-maps. I'm calling them - geomorffs. They're not quite geomorphs since they don't align on the edges, but you could certainly string them together.  Each will have varying sizes of exits from tertiary - primary passage sizes.  They'll also be useable with any of my other Underdark maps.

The first four were posted on March 15th, 2019.

Hvalrif - a Myrkland settlement on the Underdark sea

Hvalrif (whale rib) is a small Viking settlement on the underdark sea. When @DungeonsPossums mentioned this setting on his blog I fell in love with it and decided I needed to start drawing some maps.

The higher side of the island is the setting for a small graveyard, fenced with whale ribs. The settlement itself is bounded by an embankment offering some protection.  There are several homes and a two-story watchtower. Just outside the embankment lies an inanimate orca skeleton.

Three longships hail from Hvalrif, one or two are generally at sea. At least one is always at the island to provide security.  Another defense the island enjoys is the pod of animated whale skeletons that live in the waters around the island.

Skeletal Whale
Frequency: Rare
No. Encountered: 1d8
Size: Large (30-40 ft long)
Move: 180 ft swimming
Armour Class: 4
Hit Dice: 12
Attacks: 1 bite or 1 tail
Damage: 8d4 (bite), 3d8 (tail)
Special Attacks: Swallow Whole
Special Defences:
Immune to cold, sleep, charm, hold and other mental based attacks.
  Cutting weapons do ½ damage
  Piercing weapons do 1d2 damage
Magic Resistance: Standard
Lair Probability: Nil
Intelligence: Low
Alignment: Neutral
Level/XP: 13/ 1900 + 16/hp
Skeletal whales can “swallow” their prey, holding them in their mouth and diving to disgorge them at greater depth.  They attack the living, seeking to knock sailors into the water where they can be attacked directly or left to drown. The villagers on Hvalrif have trimmed their boats with whale ribs on the bow and stern, which keeps the skeletal whales from attacking them.  Anyone in the water will be attacked as normal, nearby whale bones or no.

Underdark Waterfall

This cave and series of waterfalls has long been a watering stop along an underdark tunnel.  Recently a pair of ettercaps has taken up residence.  They tend to stay hidden on the shelf along the first waterfall and the cave further upstream.  When they see travellers that seem like easy pickings, they will leap upon them in an ambush.

A number of large and huge spiders inhabit the main part of the cave.

The cave and tunnels leading to it are heavily webbed, and a number of trip lines give both the spiders and the ettercaps forewarning of anything approaching.

While ettercaps and spiders do not gather treasure, there is likely to be some amount of incidental treasure - perhaps from https://dungeonspossums.blogspot.com/2018/12/random-treasure-tables.html

A Fungal Forest

This massive cavern is filled with giant mushrooms, used for both food and construction in the underdark.  As such it is frequently 'farmed' by all manner of underdark denizens.

The western side is more heavily harvested by a drow community that sits a mile or so away.  Their slaves dug out the steps into the nook in the northwest portion of the cavern. The hollow column houses a shrine to Lolth - and gives rise to spiders and driders that make the cavern their home.

The river and waterfall along the eastern edge provide some seclusion to an explorers camp.

Two 'faerie rings' are places of potent magic (and the occasional summoning.)

Underdark Temple

This temple in the underdark was inspired by my son.  It's loosely based on an Egyptian tomb and was the trigger for my creating celegthuros - mummified cats used to guard tombs.

You can find Swords & Wizardry, OSRIC, and 5e versions of celegthuros at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1igIJTagS5AZzwPN1ABLAdKDXoBo7R4pn/view
